The bamboo gives
Bamboo is among the most silica-rich plants on earth and a heavy potassium accumulator. Sealed inside a culm at 800 °C+, the salt takes up silicon, potassium, calcium and manganese from the plant as it burns away.
Bamboo salt is one of the most over-claimed products in the wellness category. It is also genuinely, measurably different from the salt in your cupboard. This page separates those two facts as carefully as we can.

Volatile contaminants do not survive repeated firing. Comparative surveys report roasted bamboo salt carrying the lowest concentrations of toxic elements — below both sea salt and rock salt. Microplastics, a documented issue in marine salt, do not survive at all.
Sodium chloride falls from about 96% to about 85% of total mass — not because sodium is removed, but because everything else concentrates around it as yield drops to 19%.
28 elements, each with its role in the body and the direction the kiln moves it. Including the ones that do nothing, and the ones we are glad to see fall. Select any element to read it.
A 10% solution of our ninth roast measures pH 11.4 — the highest of any edible salt we are aware of, and a genuine consequence of the process. It is also the single most abused number in this category.
Here is the honest version: a pinch of alkaline salt in a bowl of food does not meaningfully change your body's pH, because your blood is buffered within a very narrow range by your lungs and kidneys and nothing you eat moves it. What alkalinity does do is change behaviour in the pan — it firms green vegetables, it can split a delicate cream, and it carries the antioxidant-associated compounds that the research actually focuses on.
Read the long versionFigures for salts other than ours are typical published ranges rather than our own assays. Where a number is uncertain we have said so.
Elemental surveys using ICP-OES and ICP-MS consistently rank roasted bamboo salt above sea salt and rock salt for mineral nutrients. Potassium, calcium, magnesium and manganese rise with each firing cycle.
The same surveys report roasted bamboo salt with the lowest concentrations of toxic elements of the salts compared. We assay every batch for lead and cadmium and put the sheet in the box.
Bamboo salt shows higher antioxidant activity than unroasted salt in laboratory assays, associated with its sulphur compounds and its selenium and manganese content. Laboratory activity is not a clinical outcome, and we will not present it as one.
No anti-caking agents, no iodine added after the fact, no flow improvers, no bleaching. The iodine present is what the sea put there. This one is simply a fact about our process.
Bamboo salt is a food, not a medicine. We do not claim that it treats, cures, prevents or mitigates any disease, and any seller who tells you it does is either mistaken or lying to you. It will not alkalise your blood — your kidneys and lungs already do that, continuously, and nothing you eat overrides them.
It remains sodium chloride. Standard dietary sodium guidance applies to it exactly as it applies to any other salt, and no amount of mineral enrichment changes that arithmetic. If you have kidney disease, hypertension, are on a sodium- or potassium-restricted diet, or take medication affected by either, speak to your doctor before making it a daily practice.
Where we cite research above, we are describing what the studies measured. Elemental composition and in-vitro antioxidant activity are not the same thing as a clinical benefit in a human being, and we have tried throughout this page not to blur that line.
